Anne B. McKellar 5K and Fun Run
Each year at Hodges Elementary/Greenwood School of Inquiry, we hold a special event in the spring to raise money for the American Cancer Society. It's something we believe in, and we are working to support the fight for a cure!
The Anne B. McKellar Memorial 5K is a fun walk/run race that is held to honor a former district teacher (and Ms. Babb's close friend) who fought bravely against cancer. The race runs on a mostly flat course from the school, on the sidewalk through the town of Hodges, and about half of a mile down Dixie Drive. Runners then make the turn and return to the school for a 3.1-mile event.
Early registration is available for $20. After that, the registration fee goes up to $25. All participants will receive a t-shirt as part of their registration! Early registrants will receive their shirts at the event, and those who register after the preregistration deadline will receive their shirts through the mail following the event. All profits from this event will benefit the American Cancer Society! Online Registration is available through Active.come but registrants must pay an additional $3.95 processing fee.
Additionally, just prior to the 5K, we will be holding the 6th annual Kids Fun Run! This race will take place on the back drive, the field, and playground at Hodges Elementary School/GSI, just prior to the annual full 5K event. Children will race down the back drive and back for distance before exploring several obstacles, including the playground equipment, cones for agility, kid-sized hurdles, hula hoops, and jump ropes! Parents should park at the front of the school, and walk down the back driveway to the porch outside the gym that morning. Early Entry fee for this event is $10.00. Early registrants will receive their fun run t-shirt on race day. Registration after the early entry day or on race day is $15.00.
